How the lane plays · Gold – Platinum
Aphelios outranges you and pokes while his guns are fresh; you win by closing with two Q stacks and E when his Q is spent.
Your Q is short range against his 550 attack range. Poke with Q through the wave to build stacks, and don't walk up for free AAs.
Q on a minion or champion, then Q again for the dash and knockup. E helps you close and retreat. Trade short, then step out of range.
Your R pulls enemies together and can win a fight, but his R and main-hand gun effect punish a bad entry. Count his Q and R first.
Play it aggressive
When his Q is on cooldown, step in with Q, AA, Q while the wave is next to you.
After he uses a weapon ability on a minion or misses, trade short with Q stacks.
If he stands forward to last hit, Q the wave to reach him. Use W for the shield in the trade.
Play it safe
When his main-hand weapon can root or slow you, don't dash in without a clear exit.
At level 6, his R can follow a dive. Back off if you've used your E and Q and are low.
Against a support engage, don't walk into the lane with no wave cover. His guns punish a Yone who has already used his dash.

His main-hand gun changes what it does: long poke, speed, root on slowed targets, or a cone. Check his weapon before dashing in.
A long blast that hits champions and adds his main-hand gun effect. It punishes a committed Yone, so avoid ending a dive in a straight line.
Phase swaps his guns almost instantly, so the threat can change mid-trade. Don't assume the weapon you saw at the start of the trade is the one you'll face.
