Volibear vs Kayle · Top

The lane in ten seconds, then the whole brief — written by our coach for your level, from Riot's own kits for patch 16.21. Every number checked against Riot's data. Options, never orders.

Written for

The same lane is not played the same way in Silver and in Diamond: pick your level, the advice changes. Signed in, Olymps opens on your rank. Coaching, not statistics — the abilities and Riot's cooldowns are the same at every level.

How the lane plays · Gold – Platinum

Kayle is weak early and ramps with levels, so Volibear wants short, hard trades and an early lead before her passive kicks in.

Levels 1-2

Your best window. Her range edge is small. Look for Q (Thundering Smash) into AA and W (Frenzied Maul) trades, and push when she wastes her spells.

Levels 3-5

Add E (Sky Splitter) for the slow and shield. Trade right after she uses Q (Radiant Blast), and keep the wave near you so she can't poke freely.

Level 6+

Her passive adds range, speed and fire waves as she levels, so kiting you gets easier. Your R (Stormbringer) gives you a leap to close and a safe tower dive.

Play it aggressive

Early levels, walk up behind a minion wave and open with Q (Thundering Smash) once she steps forward to last-hit.

Right after she misses or spends Q (Radiant Blast), go in with Q, AA and W before she can kite.

When she uses W (Celestial Blessing) to heal or run, keep the pressure up with a second W on the same target.

Play it safe

While her R (Divine Judgment) is up, a diving all-in can be wasted when she turns invulnerable.

At low health, her E (Starfire Spellblade) active can finish you. Back off and recover instead of re-trading.

In later levels, her extra range and speed make chasing in the open risky. Fight near walls or use R to close.

Their threats · Riot's cooldowns

Kayle Q — Radiant Blast
Q · Radiant Blast12 → 8 s

Long-range slow that also lowers your resistances. It makes closing with Q harder, so step out of its line, then engage once it's spent.

Kayle E — Starfire Spellblade
E · Starfire Spellblade8 → 6 s

Her E (Starfire Spellblade) adds damage on her attacks, and the active hits harder the lower you are. Don't linger at low health in melee.

Kayle R — Divine Judgment
R · Divine Judgment160 → 80 s

R (Divine Judgment) makes an ally invulnerable and rains swords in the area. Don't commit your full burst while it's up; wait it out.

When she's in melee range and her Q is spent: stun with Q's first hit, then W twice for damage and healing.

How this is written

Our coach reads both kits exactly as Riot publishes them for the current patch — abilities, cooldowns, costs, ranges — and writes the lane for one level at a time: Iron – Silver, Gold – Platinum, Emerald – Diamond, Master+. Every number in the text is checked against Riot's data; a line that cites anything else is dropped. No win rates, no tier lists: coaching, not statistics.
