Kalista vs Aphelios · Bot

The lane in ten seconds, then the whole brief — written by our coach for your level, from Riot's own kits for patch 16.21. Every number checked against Riot's data. Options, never orders.

Written for

The same lane is not played the same way in Silver and in Diamond: pick your level, the advice changes. Signed in, Olymps opens on your rank. Coaching, not statistics — the abilities and Riot's cooldowns are the same at every level.

The key

Check his weapon, bait his Q, then use Rend to trade.

Aphelios Q — Weapon Abilites
Watch · Q · Weapon Abilites9 s

His gun decides this ability; bait it first.

Kalista Q — Pierce›AA›Kalista E — Rend
Your window

Right after he spends his Q.

How the lane plays · Emerald – Diamond

Aphelios has slightly more attack range and scales through his weapon rotation; you can win by pressuring early, using Rend stacks, and controlling the wave.

Levels 1-2

Your Q (Pierce) and lunging AAs let you poke and kite. Look to kill minions with Q so the wave bounces and he can't last-hit safely.

Levels 3-5

Stack Rend on minions and on him, then use E (Rend) to finish low minions and slow him. Slow push, then crash before jungle timers to set up a dive.

Level 6+

His R (Moonlight Vigil) is long range and applies his main-hand gun effect. Your R (Fate's Call) can save or turn a fight; respect both Rs before committing.

Play it aggressive

After he spends Q on a minion or a poke, you can step in with a lunging AA and E (Rend) to slow him.

When the wave is stacked on your side and his jungler looks far away, you can extend a trade with Rend stacks.

When he swaps into a weaker weapon or runs low on ammo, look for a short trade while his options are limited.

Play it safe

When his Q is up and he holds Gravitum or Calibrum, stay out of his range unless you have space to dash back out.

When his jungler is near and the wave is pushing into you, backing off beats getting caught on a bad angle.

Before both Rs are down, avoid standing in a line with your support when an engage can stack you.

Their threats · Riot's cooldowns

Aphelios Q — Weapon Abilites
Q · Weapon Abilites9 s

Effect depends on his main-hand gun: a Calibrum shot from range, a Gravitum root, or an Infernum cone. Check his weapon before trading and bait the Q first.

Aphelios R — Moonlight Vigil
R · Moonlight Vigil120 → 100 s

Long-range blast that explodes on champions and applies his main-hand gun effect, which can swing a grouped fight. Staying out of one line helps.

Aphelios W — Phase
W · Phase0.8 s

Phase swaps his guns almost instantly, so his Q and attack can change mid-trade. Avoid committing off one weapon read; he may swap to a better one.

Your combo

Kalista Q — Pierce›AA›Kalista E — Rend

Use it after he steps up to last-hit: Pierce to poke, a lunging AA to stack Rend, then E to slow and finish.

How this is written

Our coach reads both kits exactly as Riot publishes them for the current patch — abilities, cooldowns, costs, ranges — and writes the lane for one level at a time: Iron – Silver, Gold – Platinum, Emerald – Diamond, Master+. Every number in the text is checked against Riot's data; a line that cites anything else is dropped. No win rates, no tier lists: coaching, not statistics.
