How the lane plays · Gold – Platinum
Illaoi wants you standing near her tentacles with her E hooked on you; you want short, mobile trades on her cooldowns, away from terrain.
Use Q (Mortal Steel) poke at the edge of her reach and stay off the walls. Her Q (Tentacle Smash) and W (Harsh Lesson) hurt if you stand still.
Get two Q stacks for the dash, hit and leave before tentacles swing. Use E (Soul Unbound) to trade, then return to your body out of range.
Your R (Fate Sealed) gives pick potential, but her R (Leap of Faith) can punish clumping. Fight in open space and keep your dash ready to leave.
Play it aggressive
After she misses E (Test of Spirit), you can walk up with Q (Mortal Steel) and AA before she has her tools back.
With two Q stacks, you can dash through her, trade, and reposition while tentacles are far from you.
When she's pushed up in open lane away from walls, short trades with Q, AA and W are safer.
Play it safe
When her E (Test of Spirit) is up and you're next to walls or brush edges, tentacles will be on you fast.
Don't chase her into her tentacles after a trade; they heal her when they hit you.
Right after she hits 6, respect her R (Leap of Faith) if you stand grouped on top of her.
Their threats · Riot's cooldowns
Pulls your spirit out and spawns tentacles on you if it dies or drifts too far. Don't fight beside walls; avoid hitting the spirit needlessly.
Leaps onto you and makes nearby tentacles swing at you. Keep distance from terrain and tentacles, and don't stay in melee after she jumps.
Slams the idol, hitting everyone nearby and spawning a tentacle per champion hit. Don't dive into her at level 6 without a clear exit.
