Vel'Koz vs Anivia · Top
The lane in ten seconds, then the whole brief — written by our coach for your level, from Riot's own kits for patch 16.21. Every number checked against Riot's data. Options, never orders.
The same lane is not played the same way in Silver and in Diamond: pick your level, the advice changes. Signed in, Olymps opens on your rank. Coaching, not statistics — the abilities and Riot's cooldowns are the same at every level.
Don't stand in her Q line. Trade when it is spent.
Sidestep it, because her stun leads into a doubled E.
Right after her Q is spent or missed.
How the lane plays · Gold – Platinum
Both of you poke from range and burn mana fast. Vel'Koz outranges Anivia's E, so the lane is decided by who eats her Q.
Poke with W (Void Rift) and Q (Plasma Fission) from max range while she stays back. Keep your mana up for the next trade, since both of you spend it quickly.
With E (Tectonic Disruption) online, you can run the three-stack passive: Q, W, E all apply it. Trade right after her Q is spent. Don't give her a free E.
Your R (Life Form Disintegration Ray) reaches further than anything she has, and Anivia's R (Glacial Storm) controls the wave. Shove, then force trades from range.
Play it aggressive
Right after her Q misses or is spent, step up and chain W into Q while she has no stun.
When her wave is pushed under your range, poke with W and Q. Her short E range means she can't hit back without stepping in.
Once E is up, hit Q, E, W to land the passive stacks and take a big chunk.
Play it safe
When her Q is ready and you're in a straight line with her, back off or step wide. A stun into E is a big trade for her.
After you spend E and mana, don't hover in her range. Anivia can punish you with E and R.
When her wall lands behind you, give up the trade and don't walk into her range.
Their threats · Riot's cooldowns
The sphere chills, then stuns when it bursts. Sidestep the line, and don't stand still in it when you cast W.
Frostbite hits hard, and double damage after Q's chill or R's storm. Stay out of her E range after any Q hit.
The wall blocks movement. Respect it as a tool to cut off your escape or wall you in, not just as a poke shield.
Your combo
Open with Q to slow, E to knock up, then W on the stuck target. Best once her Q is spent.

Everything about Vel'Koz →How this is written
Our coach reads both kits exactly as Riot publishes them for the current patch — abilities, cooldowns, costs, ranges — and writes the lane for one level at a time: Iron – Silver, Gold – Platinum, Emerald – Diamond, Master+. Every number in the text is checked against Riot's data; a line that cites anything else is dropped. No win rates, no tier lists: coaching, not statistics.
