Rell vs Cho'Gath · Top

The lane in ten seconds, then the whole brief — written by our coach for your level, from Riot's own kits for patch 16.21. Every number checked against Riot's data. Options, never orders.

Written for

The same lane is not played the same way in Silver and in Diamond: pick your level, the advice changes. Signed in, Olymps opens on your rank. Coaching, not statistics — the abilities and Riot's cooldowns are the same at every level.

How the lane plays · Gold – Platinum

Rell wants short, shielded trades up close, while Cho'Gath pokes with Rupture and Feral Scream. Win by dodging his spells and committing right after he uses them.

Levels 1-2

Cho'Gath's Q (Rupture) outranges you. Stay out of its line, then use Q (Shattering Strike) and W (Ferromancy: Crash Down) for a short trade once he's spent his Q.

Levels 3-5

Fight around his cooldowns. After he misses Q (Rupture) or W (Feral Scream), E (Full Tilt) in and use Q plus W. The W shield softens his E (Vorpal Spikes) attacks.

Level 6+

R (Magnet Storm) can pull him into your team's follow-up. His R (Feast) punishes low health, so don't sit in his reach when you're low.

Play it aggressive

After he misses Rupture, use E (Full Tilt), AA, then Q (Shattering Strike) to stun and trade while it recharges.

When he is silenced-proof but low on mana, W (Ferromancy: Crash Down) in for the shield and knock-up, and fight close.

Once your R is up, pull him toward your jungler or an ally with R (Magnet Storm) for a kill setup.

Play it safe

Don't stand in a straight line from him while Q (Rupture) is ready, especially on a wave you're pushing.

After he casts W (Feral Scream) on you, your abilities are locked. Back off or take the trade on your terms later.

When you're low at level 6, his R (Feast) can finish you. Back off and recover health.

Their threats · Riot's cooldowns

Cho'Gath Q — Rupture
Q · Rupture6 s

Rupture pops you up and slows from long range, which sets up his other spells. Sidestep it and don't walk straight at him.

Cho'Gath W — Feral Scream
W · Feral Scream11 → 9 s

Feral Scream silences in a cone, so you can't Q or W mid-fight. Use your engage when he has no mana or just cast it.

Cho'Gath R — Feast
R · Feast80 → 60 s

Feast deals true damage to one target, and a kill makes him bigger. Keep your health out of its kill range once he hits level 6.

How this is written

Our coach reads both kits exactly as Riot publishes them for the current patch — abilities, cooldowns, costs, ranges — and writes the lane for one level at a time: Iron – Silver, Gold – Platinum, Emerald – Diamond, Master+. Every number in the text is checked against Riot's data; a line that cites anything else is dropped. No win rates, no tier lists: coaching, not statistics.
