How the lane plays · Gold – Platinum
Mordekaiser wants a long, sticky fight in melee range; Gragas wins by trading in short bursts around cooldowns and using E and Q to control spacing.
Both want short trades. Use Q (Barrel Roll) to poke from range and keep W (Drunken Rage) for when he walks up. Don't give free hits to start his passive.
With E (Body Slam) up, you can start a trade. Once he spends Q (Obliterate) or E (Death's Grasp), you get a cleaner window to hit back.
His R (Realm of Death) is a one-on-one duel and your R (Explosive Cask) is a peel tool. Play around that gap and avoid fights in which he has R and a big shield.
Play it aggressive
When his Q is on cooldown, step in with E (Body Slam), then use W and AA. He has less to answer with.
Throw Q (Barrel Roll) onto his path as he walks up to last-hit. Detonate it for the slow so he can't reach you.
When he is low after trading into your wave, you can E in and use Q to finish before he gets his shield value back.
Play it safe
When his E is ready and you are standing close to his minions, step back. A pull into Q is a lot of damage.
When he has 3 hits stacked and his passive aura is on, back off a bit. Fighting inside the aura costs you health.
At level 6 with his R up, don't stand alone far from your wave. A pushed lane gives him easy access to you.

Pulls you into his mace range, and his Q follows. Stay out of its area when you can, and keep your own E to break the engage.
Stores a shield from damage he deals and takes, then heals. Don't feed it with long trades; hit in short bursts and back off when it is charged.
Isolates you in a duel and steals your stats. Stay near your wave and allies, and don't be low and caught without escape once he hits 6.
