Kalista vs Nautilus · Support

The lane in ten seconds, then the whole brief — written by our coach for your level, from Riot's own kits for patch 16.21. Every number checked against Riot's data. Options, never orders.

Written for

The same lane is not played the same way in Silver and in Diamond: pick your level, the advice changes. Signed in, Olymps opens on your rank. Coaching, not statistics — the abilities and Riot's cooldowns are the same at every level.

How the lane plays · Emerald – Diamond

Kalista wants to poke and kite from range behind minions. Nautilus wants one hook to start a chain of crowd control. Whoever wastes their key ability first loses tempo.

Levels 1-2

Stand so minions block his line. Poke with AA hops and spear stacks, then trade when his Q is spent. His first-hit root punishes anyone who steps into melee.

Levels 3-5

Use cheap E (Rend) on minion stacks to shape the wave. Hold it near your tower so his hook angle is bad and your jungler can arrive.

Level 6+

His R (Depth Charge) locks one target. Keep Sentinel vision up and stay close to your partner so R (Fate's Call) can answer a dive or a hook.

Play it aggressive

When his Q is on cooldown or hit a minion, stack spears with AA and Q, then E for the slow.

When he walks up to hit a minion, hop AA and Q him back. He has little reach to answer.

When the wave is pushed to his side and his jungler is not visible, you can poke and force him off.

Play it safe

When he stands in bushes or fog with a full mana bar, expect a hook. Hold back and ward first with W (Sentinel).

Do not stand in a thin wave without minion cover. One hook leads to a root, slow and a dive.

Once he reaches level 6, avoid long fights away from your tower. His R can start a deadly engage.

Their threats · Riot's cooldowns

Nautilus Q — Dredge Line
Q · Dredge Line14 → 10 s

The hook pulls whoever it hits into root and follow-up. Stay behind minions, step out of line, and punish the miss with your own poke.

Nautilus R — Depth Charge
R · Depth Charge120 → 80 s

A chasing knock-up with stun that mostly picks one target. Spread from your partner when it is likely, and keep R (Fate's Call) for the follow-up.

Nautilus P — Staggering Blow
P · Staggering Blow

His first auto roots briefly. Never let him land it for free. Kite out with AA hops and keep your spacing past his short reach.

Your combo

AA›Kalista Q — Pierce›AA›Kalista E — Rend

Use it after his Q is spent or blocked. Stack spears, then rip them with E (Rend) to slow him for your partner.

How this is written

Our coach reads both kits exactly as Riot publishes them for the current patch — abilities, cooldowns, costs, ranges — and writes the lane for one level at a time: Iron – Silver, Gold – Platinum, Emerald – Diamond, Master+. Every number in the text is checked against Riot's data; a line that cites anything else is dropped. No win rates, no tier lists: coaching, not statistics.
