Riven vs Sett · Top

The lane in ten seconds, then the whole brief — written by our coach for your level, from Riot's own kits for patch 16.21. Every number checked against Riot's data. Options, never orders.

The same lane is not played the same way in Silver and in Diamond: pick your level, the advice changes. Signed in, Olymps opens on your rank. Coaching, not statistics — the abilities and Riot's cooldowns are the same at every level.

How the lane plays · Gold – Platinum

Sett wins long, damage-soaking brawls, and Riven wants short burst trades that end before he cashes in his stored Grit.

Levels 1-2

His basic attacks hit hard and his Q (Knuckle Down) closes distance fast. Trade in short bursts with Q and AA, then step out of reach.

Levels 3-5

With E, W and Q online you can stun and chain strikes. Go in when his E (Facebreaker) is down, and leave before he swings back.

Level 6+

R (Blade of the Exile) adds burst and a ranged finisher. His R (The Show Stopper) can catch you, so stay away from ally-less fights near him.

Play it aggressive

Right after he spends his W (Haymaker) on a minion or on you, E in, then W and Q for a short burst.

When his E (Facebreaker) is on cooldown, you can engage without worrying about the stun and the pull.

When he's low and the wave is in a good spot, look for a W stun and Q chain to finish.

Play it safe

If he's soaked up a lot of damage, his W punch is dangerous. Back off and wait for it to be used.

Don't fight inside minion lines where his E can pull you with enemies on both sides.

After level 6 with his R up, avoid being isolated next to him. Keep your E ready for his Q approach.

Their threats · Riot's cooldowns

Sett W — Haymaker
W · Haymaker18 → 12 s

Haymaker turns damage he took into a shield and a heavy punch. Long trades feed it, so keep trades short and watch his stored Grit.

Sett E — Facebreaker
E · Facebreaker16 → 10 s

Facebreaker pulls from both sides and stuns. If you're on only one side you get slowed. Don't stand with minions on his far side.

Sett Q — Knuckle Down
Q · Knuckle Down9 → 5 s

Knuckle Down speeds him toward you and adds max-health damage on two hits. Don't run in a straight line, and use E or W to reset the fight.

How this is written

Our coach reads both kits exactly as Riot publishes them for the current patch — abilities, cooldowns, costs, ranges — and writes the lane for one level at a time: Iron – Silver, Gold – Platinum, Emerald – Diamond, Master+. Every number in the text is checked against Riot's data; a line that cites anything else is dropped. No win rates, no tier lists: coaching, not statistics.
