Cho'Gath vs Azir · Top

The lane in ten seconds, then the whole brief — written by our coach for your level, from Riot's own kits for patch 16.21. Every number checked against Riot's data. Options, never orders.

Written for

The same lane is not played the same way in Silver and in Diamond: pick your level, the advice changes. Signed in, Olymps opens on your rank. Coaching, not statistics — the abilities and Riot's cooldowns are the same at every level.

The key

Save W to silence his E dash, then trade.

Azir E — Shifting Sands
Watch · E · Shifting Sands22 → 16 s

Silence him with W before he can dash out.

Cho'Gath Q — Rupture›Cho'Gath W — Feral Scream›Cho'Gath E — Vorpal Spikes›AA
Your window

When his dash is used or he is slowed by Q.

How the lane plays · Gold – Platinum

Azir pokes you from range with soldiers while you look for one Rupture to close the gap. The lane turns on his E dash and your silence.

Levels 1-2

His soldier attacks outrange your AA, so don't walk up for nothing. Last hit with P (Carnivore) for sustain and use Q (Rupture) on cooldown to poke.

Levels 3-5

With E (Vorpal Spikes) up, a Q (Rupture) into W (Feral Scream) trade gets real. Watch his E (Shifting Sands) dash after the trade. Hold W for it.

Level 6+

R (Feast) threatens a kill at low health. His R (Emperor's Divide) can knock you back out of range, so cast it when he can't use it.

Play it aggressive

When his E (Shifting Sands) is spent, Q (Rupture) him and follow with W (Feral Scream) before he can dash out.

When his Q (Conquering Sands) is on cooldown early, walk up with E (Vorpal Spikes) AA trades. His slow and poke are weaker then.

With a level 6 lead, a kill-range target is a reason to land Q (Rupture) and finish with R (Feast).

Play it safe

When he has soldiers out and you're at your wave's edge. Poke from range hurts, so give up the last hit if it's too risky.

When his R (Emperor's Divide) is ready and you're low. Don't fight him in melee range near a wall of soldiers.

When your W (Feral Scream) is down. Without the silence he can dash and shield out of any trade.

Their threats · Riot's cooldowns

Azir W — Arise!
W · Arise!1.5 s

Soldiers hit in a line from range, so he pokes you and your wave. Step out of their line and trade only when his soldiers are gone.

Azir E — Shifting Sands
E · Shifting Sands22 → 16 s

Shield plus dash gets him out of your combo and resets his soldiers if it hits you. Keep W (Feral Scream) ready to silence the dash.

Azir R — Emperor's Divide
R · Emperor's Divide120 → 90 s

The wall knocks you back and breaks your engage. Don't walk up when it's ready. After he spends it, you can go in.

Your combo

Cho'Gath Q — Rupture›Cho'Gath W — Feral Scream›Cho'Gath E — Vorpal Spikes›AA

Q (Rupture) from range to slow him, then W (Feral Scream) to stop his E dash, then E (Vorpal Spikes) AA. Best when his E is up.

How this is written

Our coach reads both kits exactly as Riot publishes them for the current patch — abilities, cooldowns, costs, ranges — and writes the lane for one level at a time: Iron – Silver, Gold – Platinum, Emerald – Diamond, Master+. Every number in the text is checked against Riot's data; a line that cites anything else is dropped. No win rates, no tier lists: coaching, not statistics.
