Thresh vs Blitzcrank · Support

The lane in ten seconds, then the whole brief — written by our coach for your level, from Riot's own kits for patch 16.21. Every number checked against Riot's data. Options, never orders.

Written for

The same lane is not played the same way in Silver and in Diamond: pick your level, the advice changes. Signed in, Olymps opens on your rank. Coaching, not statistics — the abilities and Riot's cooldowns are the same at every level.

The key

Bait their hook first, then walk up while it's down.

Blitzcrank Q — Rocket Grab

Stay off the straight line behind minions.

Right after their Rocket Grab misses.

How the lane plays · Iron – Silver

Both supports have a long-range hook, so the lane turns on who wastes theirs first and who stands in a straight line with minions.

Levels 1-2

Both hooks cost a lot of mana. Stand off the straight line through minions and bait their Q (Rocket Grab), then step up once it's spent.

Levels 3-5

Once their Q is down, you can walk up with E (Flay) ready. Their E (Power Fist) is short range, so respect it when you're close.

Level 6+

Their R (Static Field) strips shields and silences, which can cancel your W (Dark Passage) shield. Keep R (The Box) for a hook that actually lands.

Play it aggressive

After their Q misses, you can walk up and look for Q (Death Sentence) while it is on cooldown.

When they step up to last-hit a minion, Q or E (Flay) can punish them for being out of position.

If their carry is isolated and Q is down, Q, then Q again to follow, can start an all-in with your carry.

Play it safe

While their Q is ready, don't stand in line behind a minion or in open lane between waves.

Without vision of the river bushes, avoid walking up. A hook plus a jungler can punish you fast.

Don't chase after your Q lands. Their E and R can turn it around if you drift too far from your carry.

Their threats · Riot's cooldowns

Blitzcrank Q — Rocket Grab
Q · Rocket Grab20 → 16 s

Pulls you into their carry's range. Stay behind minions or sidestep after the throw starts, and don't walk up unprompted when it is ready.

Blitzcrank E — Power Fist
E · Power Fist7 → 5 s

Pops you up after a pull or a close walk-up. Keep your distance when it's charged, and don't trade at melee range.

Blitzcrank R — Static Field
R · Static Field60 → 20 s

Pops your W shield and silences you briefly. Don't rely on the shield mid-fight, and expect a silence if you stay in close.

Your combo

How this is written

Our coach reads both kits exactly as Riot publishes them for the current patch — abilities, cooldowns, costs, ranges — and writes the lane for one level at a time: Iron – Silver, Gold – Platinum, Emerald – Diamond, Master+. Every number in the text is checked against Riot's data; a line that cites anything else is dropped. No win rates, no tier lists: coaching, not statistics.
