Yasuo vs Volibear · Mid

The lane in ten seconds, then the whole brief — written by our coach for your level, from Riot's own kits for patch 16.21. Every number checked against Riot's data. Options, never orders.

Written for

The same lane is not played the same way in Silver and in Diamond: pick your level, the advice changes. Signed in, Olymps opens on your rank. Coaching, not statistics — the abilities and Riot's cooldowns are the same at every level.

The key

Bait his stun, then trade with Q pokes and E dashes.

Volibear Q — Thundering Smash
Watch · Q · Thundering Smash12 → 10 s

Make him waste it on a minion.

Yasuo E — Sweeping Blade›Yasuo Q — Steel Tempest›AA
Your window

Right after his Q is spent.

How the lane plays · Emerald – Diamond

Volibear wants a short, sticky brawl on you; Yasuo wants clean Q pokes, minion dashes out of range, and a Q3 knock-up for R.

Levels 1-2

Volibear wins close brawls once his attack speed ramps. Poke with Q (Steel Tempest) as he steps in, dash off minions, and don't trade fully while his Q is up.

Levels 3-5

Bait his Q (Thundering Smash), then trade. Keep the wave near even or slow push so you have E (Sweeping Blade) targets and can reach the jungle timers.

Level 6+

Q3 into R (Last Breath) can end a fight. His R (Stormbringer) leap slows, disables nearby towers and gives him health, so don't count on tower safety.

Play it aggressive

After he whiffs or spends Q on a minion, Q poke and E out. His stun window is gone, so the trade is yours.

With two Q stacks, E through a minion into a circle Q3. That airborne window is your all-in threat and sets up R.

When his jungler is spotted on the other side, push the wave and threaten a trade. A short, clean fight favors you.

Play it safe

With his Q up and no minion to E through, he can stun you and win the brawl. Hold your distance.

Before you have your passive shield, don't walk into his E zone. The slow and his shield make the trade lopsided.

Don't dive him under a tower near his R landing. It can disable the tower and slow you.

How this is written

Our coach reads both kits exactly as Riot publishes them for the current patch — abilities, cooldowns, costs, ranges — and writes the lane for one level at a time: Iron – Silver, Gold – Platinum, Emerald – Diamond, Master+. Every number in the text is checked against Riot's data; a line that cites anything else is dropped. No win rates, no tier lists: coaching, not statistics.
