How the lane plays · Emerald – Diamond
Lucian has the earlier, snappier trades with his range and dash; Kai'Sa wants to survive the early levels, then win through W poke, all-ins with her support and spikes.
Lucian's Q and passive double-shot give him the cleaner short trades. Trade only when his Q is spent, and hold the wave near your tower so he can't freely stand on you.
Lucian's E gives him free repositioning in trades. Use W (Void Seeker) to mark him from afar, then commit with support when his E is down, ideally as the wave crashes.
Your R (Killer Instinct) lets you jump onto a target to start or finish a fight, while his R (The Culling) punishes a stationary you. Track both ultimates and each jungler before committing.
Play it aggressive
After he spends Q or E on the wave or a trade, answer with W (Void Seeker) into AA while he can't dash away.
When your support lands an immobilize, Plasma stacks faster: step in with Q and AA to burst him out.
Once your jungler shows near the lane, push the wave and look for an all-in while his E is down.
Play it safe
While his E is up and the wave is even, avoid long AA trades: he can dash in and out of range.
At level 6, don't stand still in a lane with line of sight to him: his R can shred you. Break line of sight or use minions.
When his jungler could be near and your E (Supercharge) is spent, play safe and give up the wave rather than getting caught.
Their threats · Riot's cooldowns
Piercing Light hits through minions at short range, so standing behind a wave doesn't protect you. Stay out of its reach, or step out of the line when he casts.
Relentless Pursuit lets him dash in to trade or out of danger. Bait it early, then look to commit on him while it's on cooldown.
Ardent Blaze marks and reveals you, and he gains Move Speed attacking marked targets. Avoid the star-shaped blast, especially after you've used E (Supercharge) to hide.
